ACADEMIC YEAR STUDENTS

ISI Dublin operates from two school buildings. Meeting House Lane and Parnell Square West. All Academic Year students must attend orientation for further information on their stay. Orientation will take place on Wednesday at 9.00am at the cafe in Meetinghouse Lane building and on Wednesday at 1.30pm at the cafe in Parnell Sq. building. Orientation will cover information on setting up a bank account, your visa, GNIB appointment and course contract.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION

You will be placed according to your booking in the morning (GEAM or AYAM) or afternoon (GEAFT or AYAFT) classes. The timetable is as follows:

Course Book

You will receive your book on your first day of school. If you are an academic year student and are due to collect a second book when you move up to a higher level, please ask at reception.

Certificate

It is important that you come to all your classes. You must have 85% attendance at the end of your course in order to receive your certificate. Please collect your certificate after class on the last Friday of your course.

Attendance and Punctuality

Your class will be marked in 3 separate hours. Classes start at 9 am and 1.30 pm. If you arrive after the start time, you will lose 1 hour of attendance per day. Please make sure you are back from your breaks on time too. If you miss class due to illness, you will need to provide a doctor’s certificate in order to receive attendance.

Mobile Phones

We ask all students not to use their mobile phones during class unless directed by their teacher.

Class

If you have any problems with the level of your class, please speak with your teacher who will be able to give you the best advice.

Class lists

Please check the class lists every Monday in case your classroom has changed.

Electives

We have several different types of Elective classes: Conversation, Business English, Writing and Grammar and Exam Skills classes (IELTS, FCE and CAE). The suitability of these electives depends on the level of your General English class and the time of the Elective. If you are not sure whether you are doing an Elective, or would like to add an Elective to your course, please contact reception.

Exams

All programmes include preparation and registration for the Trinity ISE exam. At the start of their course, all Academic Year students will be registered for their exam. The exam date will be at the end of their course. Please email exams@isi-ireland.ie about your exam. If you would like to change to an IELTS or Cambridge exam you will need to pay an extra fee and notify the Academic team in the first two weeks of your course.

RECEPTION AND SOCIAL PROGRAMME

Reception

Reception is available to help you with any questions you may have about your course, accommodation and life in Dublin. They are always happy to answer your questions.

Printing

You can print documents at reception by e-mailing reception@isi-ireland.ie. The cost is 10c per page for a black and white print out and 20c for colour.

Courses

If you would like to change your course timetable, please contact reception about availability and prices. GE15 and AY15 students can add electives to their course for a nominal fee.

Accommodation

If you have any questions about your accommodation, please email us at accommodation@isi-ireland.ie.

Social programme

We have an extensive social programme with different events almost every day. These include diferent clubs such as a Jobs Club and History Club. To find out what is happening, please check the TVs at Student Lounge and follow us on Social Media.

Library

There are a number of graded readers available at reception for you to borrow. There is a deposit of €10 required which is returned when you bring the book back.

Computers

There are computers available for student use. Please do not eat and drink at the computers.

Wi-Fi

Our Wi-Fi code is 1234567890.

Café

There is a café on the second floor in Meeting House Lane and the first floor in Parnell Square.

Smoking

It is against the law to smoke in this building. If you do smoke, please use the ashtrays outside.

Emergency Numbers

The emergency number in Ireland is 999 or 112. Please contact reception if you require a doctor and they will recommend one to you.
