Getting an Irish PPS number

The Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) is a unique reference number to help you access welfare benefits, public services and information in Ireland.

The first step is to go to the following link.

Create an account on MyGovID – MyWelfare in order to apply for the PPSN.

Fill in the form with the required information and create your account. Once you have completed all the details, return to the link above and click “Request now”.

It’s important to have the necessary documents with you to complete the application/form.

  • Proof of identity (passport photo)
  • Proof of address (ISI PPS letter/medical Insurance)
  • Proof that you need a PPSN: This can be a letter from your employer or a letter from ISI Dublin, either can be.

Your steps will be

  1. Enter your personal details.
  2. Attach proof of address (this is your medical insurance policy. Request yours here.)
  3. Attach proof of identity (this is your passport photo).
  4. Attach your document you requested: This can be a letter from your employer or a letter from ISI Dublin, either can be.
  5. Check that the information you have entered is correct before you officially submit your application.

Once you have completed and submitted your application, wait for new instructions to follow, it might be possible you get an appointment to present to their facilities.
