HOW TO REGISTER WITH GNIB

If you are resident in Dublin city or county and wish to register a permission for the first time, please call Freephone 1800 800 630. Operators are available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday to take your call and book your appointment. (You should also call this number if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment.)

Please make sure you have your passport details and a valid email address to share with the customer service representative when you call. Students must inform ISI Dublin of their GNIB appointment date at least one week prior to ensure their details are provided to GNIB. Education providers such as ISI Dublin are required to send details of confirmed students to GNIB directly on a weekly basis.

Students will be required to provide:

  • Appointment confirmation
  • Acceptance Letter
  • Evidence of suitable finance or proof of funds (depending on your country)
  • Evidence of suitable medical insurance
  • Passport
  • Registration fee of €300. Only card payments are accepted.
  • Proof of attendance.

Proof of funds: To register with GNIB students are required to show evidence that they have access to a minimum of €3,000 to support themselves. They can prove this using one of the following:

  1. A statement from an Irish bank account in their name showing €3,000.
  2. A current foreign bank statement less than one-month-old showing €3,000, together with a past statement within the last 6 months, for an account in the student’s name (as in his or her passport) accompanied by a debit card in the same name and same bank account. The bank statement does not have to be in English once the text is in the Roman alphabet and the student’s name and currency are clear. If the text is in a different script it must be professionally translated and certified/stamped. Students may also use their parent’s bank statements if they are funding them. Any statement from a parental account must share the same surname of the student and be accompanied by a color copy of their passport.
  3. Documentary evidence that money is held in trust for a student by a financial services body regulated in Ireland by the Central Bank of Ireland.
  4. A pre-paid credit or debit card(s) with a verification of the amount(s) in credit.

Students should note that due to increased bank compliance issues they will only be able to open a bank account once they have a job offer in Dublin. Students are advised to use alternative means to show proof of funds to GNIB.

Medical Insurance: Every student is required to have appropriate medical insurance for the duration of their stay in Ireland. You will be required to present this medical insurance policy when you register at GNIB (immigration). ISI Dublin offers medical Insurance for €125 for up to 1 year and we strongly advise all students to buy this insurance as it is accepted by GNIB (immigration).
